steaming sugar

with one comment

on my way home from a job the other day i simply couldn’t pass a big sugar refinery where there were just huge piles of steam towering up against the partly cloudy moon-lit sky.. unfortunately the steam was quite a bit less yet when i found my first spot to shoot, but still i thought it would be a nice test-drive for the nikon’s night-abilities which i omitted to test till now..

a handful of computer

with one comment

some weeks ago i stumbled over the sheevaplug – about the first sample of the newly emerging species of “plug computers”, complete computers in a housing of about the size of a power adaptor. it’s said to become the next big thing, one or more of these hanging on every household’s DSL could take cloud computing to the next level – as they should become really cheap (<50€) with more commercial products being produced based on it.

death of a camera

with 3 comments

one would think that machines like a canon 1D mark3 should resist a little rain – and well – mine actually did resist a lot more yet, but obviously one can have bad luck either. after a rainy (but not heavily pouring rain) soccer-game in april it seems i didn’t let it dry long enough, and probably should have taken it out of it’s bag (it’s usually lying in there upside down with a long lens attached) instead of just opening it.
however, when i turned it on the next time it seems there was some condensed water left at a *very* bad spot, namely the connection between the mainboard and the bayonet – and well, this killed it :(

luckily insurance covered it, so i’m now sitting at the sidelines with my mk2N and waiting for the mk4 .. 8)
